- South Fayette Qualifies A Record 7 Wrestlers For PA Jr. States
South Fayette qualified a record 7 wrestlers for the Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling (PJW) State Championships to be held on March 28th & 29th, 2008 in Erie. Never in the history of wrestling at South Fayette have so many qualified for the State Championships. The closest were in 1999 when South Fayette qualified 5 for the PIAA State Wrestling Championships & 2006 when 4 qualified for the PJW State Championships.
There were 16 South Fayette wrestlers competing in the PJW Area 7 Finals at Plum High School on March 15th with the goal of qualifying for the State Championships. A wrestler has to place in the top 2 of their respective age/weight class to advance. If a wrestler places 2nd, they can be challenged for ‘true second’ by the wrestler currently in 3rd place for the chance to qualify.
The wrestlers who qualified were;
Colin Dunn, 1st Place - 10 & Under/45 Pounds
Andrew Spencer, 2nd Place - 10 & Under/45 Pounds
J.J. Walker, 2nd Place - 10 & Under/95 Pounds
Grant Fetchet, 1st Place - 12 & Under/90 Pounds
Dylan Nock, 1st Place - 12 & Under/125 Pounds
Seth Carr, 2nd Place - 14 & Under/87 Pounds
Tyler Manion, 1st Place - 14 & Under/102 Pounds
This is the 5th consecutive year Tyler Manion has qualified for the PJW State Championships & his 4th consecutive year as an Area 7 Champion. It is Colin Dunn's 2nd consecutive year as an Area 7 Champion. This is Dylan Nock’s 2nd time qualifying & his 1st time as an Area 7 Champion. It is also the 1st time as Area 7 Champion for Grant Fetchet.
