Congratulations to Mark McKnight who was named the "Outstanding Performer" on the Pennsylvania team at the annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic last night. Mark was 1 of 2 WPIAL wrestlers who won last night. Mark beat Eric Sanders from Wabasha Kellogg High School in Minnesota by a 14-6 decision. Sanders came into the match as a four-time state champion and with a career record of 166-5.

Congratulations to Mark McKnight as being named to the lineup for the 29th Annual Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic to be held Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the University of Pittsburgh's Fitzgerald Field House. Mark will be on the team of the Pennsylvania All-Stars who will face the best the United States has to offer at 6:00 p.m. At 4:00 p.m., the WPIAL All-Stars will face off against the All-Stars from the state of Virginia.

Congratulations to Mark McKnight, who has become the first wrestler in the history of South Fayette, to win a state title. Mark won the PIAA State Wrestling Championship at the 119 lb. weight classification. The following is how Mark progressed in the state tournament:

  • 1st Round: Mark decisions Brian Sellers of Pennsbury, 5-5 in ridout
  • Quarterfinals: Mark decisions Kevin Henning of Spring Grove, 11-4
  • Semifinals: Mark decisions Jared Royer of Cedar Cliff, 4-3
  • Finals: Mark decisions Mike Sees of Shikellamy, 6-4 in overtime

South Fayette Wrestler Wins Tournament

Congratulations to South Fayette senior, Mark McKnight for winning the 119 lb. weight classification at the Powerade Tournament held at Trinity High School over the holidays. Mark defeated last year’s state champion, Drew Headlee from Waynesburg in the finals match. With his win, Mark was named the "Most Outstanding" wrestler for the tournament.
