In December, Tyler Manion won the 2004 Pine-Richland Rams Wrestling Tournament in the 10 & Under, 75 pound class. He was unscored upon for the second time this season at this tournament. This win also qualified him for the 2005 Ohio Tournament of Champions National Championships in Columbus, Ohio on April 23rd. It is the largest one day amateur wrestling tournament in the world. Unfortunately, Tyler then suffered a shoulder injury the following week at the 2004 North Allegheny Young Guns Wrestling Tournament that kept him out of action for a month.
Tyler returned to action the weekend of January 14th & 15th, 2005, representing Pennsylvania at the 50th Annual Cliff Keen Tulsa National Wrestling Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Wrestling in the 10 & Under, 76 pound class, he just missed placing in the top six by one match. That match was very close by a score of 2-1. But he won 4 matches, lost 2 & in the process, beat the second seeded wrestler in his second match. There were 31 wrestlers in his bracket from all over the USA and approximately 3,000 wrestlers entered in the tournament overall.
The weekend of January 22nd Tyler placed 3rd in the 10 & Under, 75 pound class at the 31st Annual Waynesburg Wrestling Tournament. This tournament was also an Ohio Tournament of Champions qualifier and a Pennsylvania Youth Wrestling Top 100 Tournament and had wrestlers from not only Pennsylvania but Maryland, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.
